Gemini folder extensions compared

Gemini on the web has no folders, so several Chrome extensions add them. Here is how they compare as of September 2026, using only facts from their public Chrome Web Store listings.

Facts collected 2026-09-29. Published September 30, 2026.

Disclosure: we make one of these

Sidebarly Folders for Gemini is our product, and it is included in the table below. We have tried to be fair: every number for other extensions comes from their Chrome Web Store listing as we saw it on September 29, 2026, and we point out where others do something well. User counts, ratings, versions and prices change often, so check each listing before you decide.

Where each one is good

What to check before choosing

Most folder extensions look alike in screenshots. These are the questions that separate them in daily use, based on what reviewers have reported publicly.

Does it see every chat, or only the ones in the sidebar?

Gemini's sidebar loads older chats only as you scroll. An extension that reads only what is loaded will miss most of a long history. A March 4, 2026 review of the three-platform extension said it "loads only the chats that are visible in the Gemini sidebar; to get any more than the first 30 or so you have to keep scrolling." Replying to a later review, its developer wrote that "the Gemini bug came with the 1.3.0 update and is being fixed." Look for a clear chat count you can compare against your own history.

Where is your data stored?

The table shows local, cloud, or both. Local storage keeps your chat titles on your computer; cloud storage lets them follow you but puts them on the developer's server. Neither is wrong, but you should know which one you are choosing. Read the extension's privacy policy, not just its listing.

What happens at 1,000 chats and beyond?

Chrome limits how much an extension can store unless it asks for unlimited storage. On July 27, 2026 a reviewer of Gemini Chat Folders with "over 1000 historical chats" reported the error "Resource::kQuotaBytes quota exceeded." If your history is large, test with it before you invest time in organizing.

Can you get your organization and your chats out?

Check for a backup file you can save and restore, and for per-chat export. Gemini itself has no per-chat export to Markdown or PDF, so this varies a lot between extensions.

How fast are breakages fixed?

A May 19, 2026 review of Folders for Gemini said "every chat is just called 'Chat' which makes it pointless." The developer replied that the bug "was triggered by a recent Chrome UI update," had been fixed, and that the new version was pending review. That is a good response, and it also shows the problem: Chrome Web Store review can take days or weeks, so a fix can be ready long before users receive it.

All of these can break, including ours

Every extension in this table works by reading Gemini's web page. When Google changes that page, any of them can stop working until it is fixed, and Sidebarly is no exception. We would rather say so now than in a support email.

What we do about it:

Or use what Gemini already has

You may not need an extension at all. As of September 2026, Gemini lets you search past chats, pin chats to the top of the sidebar, rename and delete chats, and, since April 2026, add chats to Notebooks. Notebooks remember sources and instructions across a continuous conversation, which is not the same as a folder, but if you only have a few projects they can be enough. Our guide Gemini Notebooks vs folders explains the difference, and how to organize Gemini chats covers methods with and without an extension.

Questions

Which Gemini folder extension is the best?

It depends on what you care about. Gemini Chat Folders has the most users. Fast Folders offers cloud sync. The three-platform extension also covers ChatGPT. Sidebarly focuses on local storage, indexing every chat, and per-chat export. Try the free tier of the one that matches your priority, with your real chat history.

Why are there no ratings for Sidebarly?

It launched on September 30, 2026. We will not show ratings or user counts until they are real, and when they are, they will be the Chrome Web Store's own numbers.

Can I use two folder extensions at the same time?

You can, but both will add their own panel to Gemini's page, which gets crowded. Folders created in one extension are not visible in another. Pick one, and keep a backup.

How current is this comparison?

The facts were collected from Chrome Web Store listings on September 29, 2026. Extensions update often, so treat user counts, ratings and prices as a snapshot. If something here is wrong or out of date, email support@sidebarly.com and we will correct it.
