How can we help?

Answers to the common questions below. If none of them fits, email support@sidebarly.com. A person reads every message, and we aim to reply within two working days.

Status: fixes ship the same day

Gemini and Claude change their websites often, and a change can break part of the panel. The part of Sidebarly that finds things on the page is driven by a small signed update file, so most fixes reach you within the same day, without waiting days for a Chrome Web Store review. Your folders are stored separately from the page and are not affected by these breakages.

The Sidebarly panel is not showing

The panel appears in the left sidebar of Gemini (gemini.google.com) or Claude (claude.ai), above the app's own chat list. If you cannot see it:

  1. Check you are on the right site with the right extension. Folders for Gemini only runs on gemini.google.com and Folders for Claude only on claude.ai. You need to be signed in.
  2. Open the sidebar. If the app's sidebar is collapsed, Sidebarly moves to a small round button in the bottom-left corner of the page. Expand the sidebar to dock it again, or press Ctrl K (Cmd K on a Mac; add Shift on Claude) to open the palette.
  3. Reload the tab once after installing or updating the extension.
  4. Check site access. Open chrome://extensions, click Details on Sidebarly, and make sure it is turned on and "Site access" allows the site (not "On click").
  5. Try without other chat extensions. Another extension that rearranges the same sidebar can get in the way. Turn it off briefly to test.

Still nothing? The site may have changed; see below, then email us.

"Chats indexed" is lower than expected

The count at the bottom of the panel is how many chats Sidebarly knows about. It should match your history. If it looks low:

  • Run Index all chats again and keep the tab open until the count stops rising. On Gemini it loads your chat list to the end, the way scrolling would; on Claude it reads your Recents page. Very long histories take a little while.
  • Sidebarly only sees chats the app lists. If a chat does not appear in Gemini's chat list or on Claude's Recents page, it cannot be indexed. On Gemini, chats in shared notebooks are not listed in the sidebar, and your activity settings affect which chats are kept.
  • Deleted chats drop out. When a chat is deleted in the app, it leaves the index too.
  • A single chat is missing? Open it once. Sidebarly adds any chat you open.

Back up and restore your folders

Backups are free on every plan, and we recommend making one now and then.

  1. Open the Sidebarly panel and click Settings.
  2. Click Back up. Chrome downloads a .json file with your folders, pins, tags, prompts, settings and the chat titles and links they refer to. Message text is not included.
  3. To restore, open Settings, click Restore and choose the file. Sidebarly shows what the file contains and asks before changing anything.

The file is yours: keep it wherever you keep other files. It never passes through us.

Move to a new computer

There are two ways, and both keep your data away from our servers.

  • Backup file (any plan): make a backup on the old computer, copy the file across, install the extension on the new one and use Restore.
  • Chrome sync (Pro): turn on Sync with Chrome in Settings on the old computer. On the new one, sign in to Chrome with the same Google Account, install the extension and turn sync on there too.

To bring Pro with you, open the upgrade screen in the extension on the new computer and log in with the email you paid with. Then open Gemini or Claude and click Index all chats once so the new computer has the full chat list.

Cancel Pro or get a refund

Open Settings in the panel and click Manage plan. That opens the payment page run by ExtensionPay, where you can cancel. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for, then you move to Free. Nothing is deleted.

For a refund, email support@sidebarly.com within 14 days of any payment, lifetime included, from the address you paid with. You get a full refund; no reason needed.

Delete all your data

All of Sidebarly's data lives in your browser, so you are in control of deleting it:

  • Settings, then Delete all data removes your folders, pins, tags, prompts, the chat index and any saved message text from this browser, after you confirm. If Pro sync is on, the synced copy is removed as well.
  • Uninstalling the extension makes Chrome delete everything the extension stored on that computer.
  • Backup files you downloaded are ordinary files; delete them like any other file.

This never deletes anything in Gemini or Claude themselves. The only records we might hold are payment details if you bought Pro; email us and we will delete what we can (payment processors must keep some records by law). See the privacy policy.

Something stopped working after an update

If folders, search or export stopped working after Gemini or Claude changed something, a fix is usually on its way the same day through the update file. Reload the tab after a few hours. If it is still broken, email us with:

  • which extension (Gemini or Claude) and its version, shown under Settings, then About;
  • what you expected and what happened instead;
  • a screenshot if it helps. Please crop out anything private. We never need your chat content.

Email support@sidebarly.com for help, refunds, bug reports and feature ideas. We aim to reply within two working days. There is no Sidebarly account, so please write from the email you paid with if your question is about Pro.
