Who we are

Sidebarly ("we", "us") makes two Chrome extensions: Sidebarly Folders for Gemini and Sidebarly Folders for Claude, and runs the website sidebarly.com. Sidebarly is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Google LLC or Anthropic PBC.

What the extension stores, and where

Sidebarly stores its data in your Chrome profile on your computer, using Chrome's extension storage (chrome.storage.local) and the browser's built-in database (IndexedDB). This data is not copied to us or to anyone else. It includes:

• What you create: folders and their order, which chats are in which folder, pins, tags, saved prompts and your settings.
• The chat index: the title, id and last-updated time of each of your chats, so that folders, search and the chat count work.
• The text cache: the message text of chats you have opened, if you use search inside chats or export. It is used only to power search and export on your computer.
• Your plan status: whether you are on Free, a trial or Pro, as reported by ExtensionPay.

What the extension reads

Sidebarly only works on the one site its edition is for: gemini.google.com for the Gemini edition and claude.ai for the Claude edition. On that site it reads what is already on your screen as a signed-in user:

• Chat titles and ids from the Gemini sidebar, or from the Recents page on Claude.
• The message text of chats you open, only to power search and export, stored locally as described above.

Sidebarly does not call Google's or Anthropic's internal APIs, does not access the platforms in the background, and does not read other websites or other tabs. Every action, such as indexing your chats, exporting or deleting, is started by you.

What leaves your computer

Nothing about your chats. Sidebarly has no accounts and no server that receives your chats, titles, folders, tags or prompts. The only network requests the extension makes, apart from the pages you visit yourself, are:

• The daily update file. Once a day, Sidebarly downloads a small file from sidebarly.com. It is a plain, signed JSON file that describes the structure of the Gemini or Claude page (which parts of the page hold the sidebar and chat titles), so we can fix breakages quickly when those sites change. It contains no code. The request carries no identifiers beyond what every web request carries: your IP address and your browser's user agent. Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs of these requests for up to 30 days for security and troubleshooting, and we do not combine them with anything else.
• Payment checks, if you start a trial or pay, described under Payments.
• Error reports, only if you turn them on, described under Optional error reports.

Payments

Pro plans are sold through ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com), which uses Stripe to process payments.

• ExtensionPay receives your email address and your payment status (trial, paid, cancelled). The extension asks ExtensionPay whether your Pro plan is active. We can see your email address and plan status in the ExtensionPay dashboard, and use them only to provide Pro, answer support requests and handle refunds.
• Stripe receives your card or payment details. We never see or store your card number.

Their own privacy policies apply to the data they process. The 7-day Pro trial does not require a card.

Optional error reports

Anonymous error reports are off by default. If you turn them on in Settings, then when something goes wrong the extension sends a report to sidebarly.com containing exactly three fields:

• the platform (Gemini or Claude),
• the extension version,
• the name of the error class (for example, "SidebarNotFound").

Like any web request, it also carries your IP address and user agent, which appear in our hosting access logs for up to 30 days. Error reports never include chat content, chat titles, chat ids, folder names, prompts, or any account information. You can turn them off again at any time.

Optional sync

Pro includes sync across your Chrome browsers. It is off by default. When you turn it on, Sidebarly copies your folders, pins, tags, prompts and settings into Chrome's own sync storage (chrome.storage.sync). Chrome then syncs that data through your Google Account, under your Chrome sync settings and Google's privacy policy. The message text cache is never synced. We never receive or see synced data.

Permissions and why

• Storage: to save your folders, pins, tags, prompts, settings and chat index in your browser.
• Unlimited storage: so that large histories (thousands of chats) do not hit Chrome's default storage limit and stop saving.
• Alarms: to check once a day for the layout update file and to refresh your plan status.
• Site access to one platform only: gemini.google.com for the Gemini edition, claude.ai for the Claude edition, to show the Sidebarly panel and read chat titles on that site.
• extensionpay.com: ExtensionPay's own script runs only on its payment pages, to tell Sidebarly that a purchase finished.

Sidebarly also downloads the daily update file from sidebarly.com and, only if you turn them on, sends error reports there. These are ordinary web requests and need no extra permission.

This website

sidebarly.com sets no cookies and uses no analytics, no trackers, no advertising, and no third-party scripts or fonts. Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs (IP address, user agent, the page requested, the referring page and the time) for up to 30 days for security and troubleshooting.

The page shown after you uninstall asks, optionally, why you left. Each answer is a plain link with the reason in the web address (for example, ?r=missing-feature). That reason appears in our access logs like any other page request. Nothing else is collected, and it is not linked to you.

Deleting your data

• In the extension: Settings > Delete all data removes everything Sidebarly has stored in your browser. See how to delete all data.
• Uninstalling the extension makes Chrome remove its stored data from that browser.
• Synced data, if you turned sync on, is deleted by Delete all data, and you can also clear it through your Chrome sync settings.
• Backup files you export are ordinary files on your computer. You control them; delete them like any other file.
• Payment records held by ExtensionPay and Stripe: email us and we will ask them to delete what they are not required to keep by law.

Deleting Sidebarly's data never deletes your chats on Gemini or Claude.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In particular, we certify that:

• user data is not sold to third parties;
• user data is not used or transferred for purposes unrelated to Sidebarly's single purpose, which is organizing, searching and exporting your chats on the one platform the edition supports;
• user data is not used or transferred to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes;
• no human reads your data. Your chat data never reaches us, so there is nothing for anyone at Sidebarly to read.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or the CCPA in California), you have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of personal data about you, and to object to its use. The only personal data we can access is the email address and plan status held by ExtensionPay if you have paid or started a paid plan. Email support@sidebarly.com to exercise any of these rights. Everything else is stored on your own device, where you can view, export and delete it yourself. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA.

Children

Sidebarly and this website are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the changelog. We will never start sending your chat data anywhere without asking you first.
